Charlon Jimerson enters his ninth season of professional baseball. Jimerson attended the University of Miami and was named the Most Valuable Player of the College World Series when Miami won the championship in 2001. That same month, Jimerson was drafted by the Houston Astros in the fifth round of the 2001 amateur draft. Jimerson reached the major leagues four years later and made his major league debut on September 14, 2005. On September 4, 2006, Jimerson got his first at-bat in the major leagues when he pinch-hit for pitcher Roger Clemens in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies and hit a home run on the first pitch ever thrown to him in the major leagues. Jimerson has played in the major leagues during parts of the last four seasons with the Houston Astros in 2005-2006 and the Seattle Mariners in 2007-2008. In 2008, Jimerson made the opening day roster, but was later returned to AAA, where he played in 55 games and hit .233 with 11 homeruns and 31 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases. Jimerson possess extraordinary power and speed. Over the course of his major league career, Jimerson has hit .444 with 2 homeruns and 4 runs batted in. |
